The fall season brings cooler weather, a beautiful change in leaves, and, the last season before winter. As the weather gets colder and eventually transitions to winter, it means it’s time to find ways to save money on your heating bills so you can stay toasty warm without breaking the bank. Thankfully, there are more than a few ways to save money on your winter heating bills!

Focus on Fans

One useful option to consider is to use fans to help circulate air flow inside your home. When you turn on your fan and keep it at a low setting, it will circulate air upward toward your ceiling, forcing warm air down into your living space, helping it feel much warmer. To do this, simply set your fan on a low setting, which will then circulate air upward toward your ceiling. As a result, warmer air will then be forced downward, which will cause your home to then feel much warmer.

Clean Up Those Vents

Dirty vents and radiators could be causing your heating bills to be higher. Ensure that all of your vents and radiators are clean and free of dust, and get your vents checked as frequently as possible to keep them in tip-top shape. By keeping radiators and vents clean, this will allow air flow to move more freely into your home, and will promote equal heat radiation, helping to eliminate cold spots in your home. As an additional bonus, cleaner vents and radiators make it easier to breathe, and ensures that you aren’t breathing in any dust or any other gunk that can accumulate from infrequent vent and radiator cleanings. Talk about a win-win!

Turn It Down

Turning down your thermostat to a lower setting will help you save up to 3% on your heating bill per degree lowered over a 24 hour period. Pretty cool, huh? Throughout the winter months, we tend to keep our thermostat set at approximately 68 degrees during the day and 55 degrees at night. By having the thermostat set a 55 degrees at night, you can save up to 13% on your heating bill. The easiest way to help with regulating temperatures is to invest in a programmable thermostat, which is something that many home owners look for as an upgrade.

Seal Up Cracks and Corners

Feeling a little drafty? Sealing up windows and doors not only helps keep cold air out in the world where it belongs, but it helps keep warm air indoors. No more escaping heat! Use thick fabric door blockers for heavy entrance doors, and keep an ear out around window frames for any whistling wind. If you feel or hear an air leak, patch it up as soon as possible.
