According to multiple experts, the overall temperature of the room in which you sleep can not only affect how comfortable you are, but it can also affect how long you actually sleep as well. This is because when you actually go to sleep at night, the set point for your actual body temperature decreases, meaning that if it ends up getting too cold or too hot, your body will only end up working hard to achieve the set point. It can be extra hard to fall asleep when your thermostat is not working.

The mild drop in your body temperature is what helps to induce sleep. Typically, if you sleep in a room that’s cooler in temperature as opposed to sleeping in a room that tends to be much warmer in temperature, this is something that can happen much easier; however, if that same room becomes too cold or too hot in temperature, then the chances are greater that you will end up waking up more during the night, which can greatly disrupt your sleep as a result.

In terms of recommending a specific temperature to help, this is something that isn’t all that easy thanks in large part because what may be comfortable for one individual may not be comfortable for someone else. Typically, it’s recommended that a room be kept at between 65 and 72 degrees; however, you should always keep the temperature at a level that you feel is comfortable enough for you.

There are also some additional strategies to make note of that can help you with creating better overall sleeping conditions as well. These include the following:

*Keep the room itself dark, quiet, and cool.

*Be cautious when using memory foam pillows, as they could end up making you feel too hot.

*Wear socks when you sleep, as having cold feet during the night can potentially disrupt your sleep.
